Ronald McCants is an insurance and financial services professional. He has a parallel career as an emerging TV Writer who focuses on gritty dramas that explore the human condition at the intriguing junction of family and crime, often fueled by dark secrets. An award-winning playwright, Ron’s had works developed and produced at La Jolla Playhouse, Company of Angels in Los Angeles, SoHo Theatre in London, Theater Masters in Aspen, and many others.

Raised near Springfield, Missouri, in a small cattle farm community filled with evangelical churches and violence, Ron was drawn to the power of the written word in high school, when his father, a former bank robber who later worked for the US Postal Service, fell victim to a hate crime and joined a class action lawsuit. Instead of justice being served, Ron’s father lost his job and was himself prosecuted. Ron responded by writing an oratorical essay, “My Father’s a Liar and a Thief, but Aren’t All Our Fathers?” The school was up in arms, but Ron felt empowered speaking his truth.

Driven by a belief that television drama can be transformative as well as entertaining, Ron is inspired to actively give voice to the lesser-heard, complex and still striving people like his father.

Ron’s career in the insurance and financial services industry began when he was at Vista Research on Wall Street in 2005. He went on to have experience in private equity and information technology. Currently, Ron is affiliated with Northwestern Mutual and Mass Mutual. He helps people and businesses make decisions that impact their financial future. On a day-to-day basis, Ron helps clarify the most important goals and objectives his clients have and shows them how to achieve them in the most efficient and tax advantageous way.

Ron holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from the University of California, San Diego. He’s a passionate family man and community member in his home of Irvine.
