Bio | A native Angelino to East LA, and working towards empowering the community. The wild has always called me, both my parents are from a small farming community in Zacatecas, Mexico. With strong roots planted in the soil, I knew it was my duty to insure it's well being. Graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Environmental Science and Economics. During my time at UCSC I was part of the suitability movement in building the first LEED Certified Building on Campus, and served at the Chancellor's Climate Action Intern. As the Chancellor's Intern I help draft the first Climate Action Plan for the UCSC Campus. Once I graduated I was fortunate enough to go back home and develop youth leadership programming to address Environmental Injustices. For eight years I developed strong relationships with the surrounding youth and was part of their leadership development. Together we developed project based learning opportunities in the areas of Food Justice, Environmental Justice, Bike accessibility and other issues facing low-income community of color. In 2016 was hired by the National Wildlife Federation to work with Eco-Schools in CA developing similar projects as I did at CALO. I'm fortunate to be given the opportunity to give back to the community that raised me. I live by the idea that one does not move forward without looking back to insure everyone moves as one, together. |
